Sarah Lake, a Canadian-born singer-songwriter who grew up in North Carolina, rose to fame as Sarah Mather on American Idol, where she made it to the finals. After the show, she moved to New York City, where she met her husband, Ernie Lake, a Grammy-nominated producer. She took a break from music to start a family, but after the birth of her two children, she released her EP “The Ride” in the summer of 2016. The EP’s single, “The Ride,” reached number one and remained there for four weeks on the CMT Artist Discovery Program.
Her song “Soldier On” from the EP has over one million views on YouTube. Sarah moved to Nashville in 2017 and has since released music that has been featured on Tidal, Apple Music, and a variety of Spotify playlists. As a songwriter, Sarah has had her songs recorded by a number of artists, including Moriah Formica, Betty Cantrell, and Reba McEntire.
Although she writes in all music genres, her artist sound has a distinct Americana/Folk feel, as evidenced by the success of her songs “Devil in My Head” and “Messy” on Nashville radio station Lightning 100, and “Missing Home,” which was added to several Apple playlists. Her music video for “Wide Eyed Girl” was also added to CMT online.
Sarah’s song “Get In or Get Out,” a finalist in an international songwriting competition, has been transformed into a summer dance classic with the help of her husband Ernie Lake, and is being released as a tribute to the LGBTQ+ community in Tennessee.
