Hamish – Singing in My Soul: Finding Calm, Comfort, and Emotional Sanctuary in Daily Life.

Hamish is a singer-songwriter from Stroud, with deep musical roots in the golden age of folk and rock music. Born in 1972, this 53 year old artist grew up wishing he could have experienced the magic of the late 1960s and 1970s firsthand, which led to collecting records from Abba to Zappa. He spent his younger years hitchhiking around the world with nothing but a guitar, influenced by legendary songwriters like Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Leonard Cohen, and Joni Mitchell. Now he writes music on his deck at his quiet Cotswold cottage, surrounded by friends. Now, 27 patient years after debut album Picture in My Bag, he finally answers the long-awaited question from his followers and shares new music with the world.

“Singing in My Soul” has a special history that was created in a unique location, the roots of which go back to the very beginning of his recording journey. It was recorded in the grand rooms of Hatfield Court, an ancient Herefordshire mansion with an old Aga wood-fired stove. Local musicians gathered in an oak-panelled room, teaming up with renowned producer Les Penning (Mike Oldfield) to achieve a warm, natural sound. That genuine spark carried the song into the New Zealand folk charts, onto television, and into lasting popularity at weddings and other joyful occasions.

Singing in My Soul

The music is a smooth mix of classic soul, peaceful folk, and gentle contemporary indie sound. Gentle percussion and acoustic guitars meld together softly, rising and falling, just as the natural rhythms of the earth do. The sound builds gradually from quiet, tender passages to fuller, more textured elements, the mood shifting from a feeling of naked truth to a moment of sheer release.

The singing on the track is intimate, soft, and totally real. The lead voice goes from soft breath to clear strength, no frills, just pure emotion. The lead vocal is surrounded by warm background vocals like a soft blanket, making the whole track feel comforting and the spirit feel safe and connected.

The song is about how to find peace in yourself and heal heavy feelings. The emotional landscape will have some stormy weather, but the dark times are just phases when we have a steady anchor within. It shows a real power in finding peace in quiet hope, driving away the cold feelings of loneliness in the late dark hours.

This is a theme that is very much alive in our daily lives and in our personal journeys. Life is a seesaw with stress and thoughtfulness as the two ends that tilt. In difficult times at work, when we are tired or just unsure, an inner tune provides a warm place to hide and recover.

To put it simply, “Singing in My Soul” is a true gift of comfort and hope to anyone traveling through the unexpected moments of life. It turns personal memories and human warmth into a steady tune, reminding us that regardless of what is happening all around us, we can stay calm and happy. Hamish has given us an art that is timeless that quietly lingers with us and lights the way forward.
